March 2022

2 stories · Crackdown, Platforms

March 2022 was the month the war in Ukraine reached the trade. Airbnb suspended its business in Russia and Belarus, waived its fees in Ukraine and saw guests book 434,000 nights there to send money to hosts, then canceled some of those bookings and stopped new hosts from listing. In the United States, Atlanta's license requirement took effect on 1 March and San Diego's cap on whole-home rentals won the California Coastal Commission's approval. Two of the trade's data companies, AirDNA and Transparent, changed hands.
