August 2022

2 stories · Crackdown, Platforms

August 2022 put one question to hosts from two directions: who a city may keep out of its permit system, and who a platform may keep out of a booking. A federal appeals court ruled against New Orleans's residency requirement for short-term rentals, and the City Council answered with a freeze on new residential permits. Airbnb began testing a screen for party risk in the US and Canada and reported its most profitable second quarter, while Edinburgh won approval to require planning permission for whole-home lets.
