March 2023

2 stories · Crackdown, World

March 2023 was a month in which governments stopped waiting for the platforms. After a fire killed seven people in an Old Montreal building that held prohibited short-term rentals, Airbnb agreed to remove Quebec listings that had no provincial permit. New Orleans, obliged by a federal appeals court to rewrite its rules, capped residential rentals at one per square block. Around them, the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank touched Sonder's deposits, EU ministers backed data-sharing rules, and voters in Lucerne approved a 90-day limit.
