October 2021 moved short-term rental rules up a level. Michigan's House voted 55-48 for a bill to stop local governments zoning out short-term rentals and sent it to the Senate. Amsterdam's registration deadline passed on 1 October, and the city's count of Airbnb listings fell from 16,648 in March to 2,924. The European Union consulted on rules for the whole bloc, Airbnb agreed to remove listings in Vienna's municipal housing, and Sonder and its merger partner revised their terms.
