July 2021

July 2021 opened with a Paris court ordering Airbnb to pay the city 8,080,000 euros over 1,010 listings without registration numbers, on the day the platform made the number a condition of new short-stay bookings for entire homes there. It closed with Vacasa agreeing to go public through a merger with TPG Pace Solutions. In between, resort governments in Colorado and California paused, or kept paused, new short-term rental permits, Wales announced plans for a registration scheme for holiday accommodation, and HomeToGo agreed to a merger of its own.
