May 2023

2 stories · Platforms, The Money

May 2023 belonged to Airbnb. On 3 May it relaunched private rooms as Airbnb Rooms, opened its total price display to every guest and put checkout chores under review. On 9 May it reported its first profitable first quarter, $117 million on revenue of $1.8 billion, and said it expected its average nightly rate to dip. Around it the trade's news was mixed: Evolve cut 164 jobs, Sonder and Vacasa had Nasdaq notices over their share prices, Florida's vacation rental bill died, and Hostaway raised $175 million.
